
Vietnam’s Packaging Industry Maintains Steady Growth in 2024
According to the Vietnam Packaging Association (VINPAS), the total global import value for paper packaging in 2024 reached USD 18.2 billion, with Vietnam ranking fourth with an import value of USD 2.2 billion.
On the afternoon of May 7, VINPAS hosted its Annual Conference for Vietnam Packaging Enterprises 2025, alongside the Vietnam Packaging Awards 2025 ceremony.
According to the Vietnam Packaging Association (VINPAS), the total global import value for paper packaging in 2024 reached USD 18.2 billion.
1. Industry Performance in 2024
Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Sang, President of VINPAS, stated that Vietnam’s packaging industry achieved several positive results in 2024.
A 2024 survey revealed that:

46.15% of packaging enterprises reported revenue growth of 5%–10%.

46% recorded profits within the same range.
The year also saw notable global market fluctuations in packaging import demand, with labeling products experiencing significant value growth.
Specifically:

Flexible plastic packaging imports globally reached USD 9.542 billion, doubling from 2023.

The United States remained the largest importer, accounting for 33.5%.

Vietnam ranked fourth, with 30.5% growth, capturing 5% of the global share.

For paper packaging, total global imports in 2024 hit USD 18.2 billion, up 105.5% from 2023.

The U.S. continued to lead with USD 5.7 billion, holding 31.2% of the global market.

Vietnam was the fourth-largest importer, holding 11.9% of global share with USD 2.2 billion in import value.

In labeling, global imports totaled USD 33.489 billion, a 97% increase year-on-year.

Brazil led the market, followed by the U.S., and Vietnam ranked third, with USD 3.3 billion in imports.

In 2024, Vietnam’s exports of packaging and labeling products reached USD 7.636 billion, marking a 20% increase from 2023.

The U.S., Indonesia, India, Russia, and the Philippines, underscoring strong demand and growth potential for Vietnamese packaging and labeling products.
“Overall, the packaging industry in Vietnam continues to maintain a stable growth trajectory,” Mr. Sang noted.
2. Challenges Ahead in 2025
Vietnam’s packaging sector may face new challenges stemming from U.S. trade and tariff policies.

To address this, VINPAS outlined key initiatives:
